ÉVOLUTION – Presented by Feministisk Filmklubb

On a remote island, in a village populated exclusively by women and young boys, 10 year old Nicolas lives with his mother. Nicolas is curious about his surroundings and the people around him. But something isn’t quite right… All of the women on the island have identical clothes, haircuts, and only one son each. The women take the boys for ritualistic baths in the ocean, and perform mysterious surgeries on them in the hospital. What are they hiding? After a traumatic experience, Nicolas must try to find out what is going on, and why. Are we in the future, on a different planet – or in a dream? No matter what, obey your mother!

Évolution is an enigmatic and beautiful tale about the fear of the unknown, seen through the eyes of a boy on the threshold of puberty. It questions human evolution, fertility, and the ability to create new life.

This is a sensuous and symbolic film, which has been described as a poetic body horror/science fiction experiment. Director Hadzihalilovic paints a remarkable and fantastical picture of the dreams, fantasies, and horrors of childhood.

The film is presented by Feministisk filmklubb, who will hold an introduction to the film in Norwegian. The film is in French with Norwegian subtitles.
