HAPPENING (2021)

Femfilm Oslo, Another World Entertainment, and Vega Scene are thrilled to invite you to a pre-premiere of the award-winning film adaptation of Annie Ernaux’s novel Happening.

Annie is one of the brightest graduates in her class, and has it all planned out with further studies when she discovers she is pregnant. Annie is desperate to find a way out so she can live the life she has worked so hard to build for herself – but she’s also a young, unwed woman in France in the 1960s, where even helping to facilitate an abortion can land you in prison for some time. How will Annie manage to get around the invasive legal and social regulations that dictate how women live their lives and what they can do with their bodies?

Happening tells the timeless tale of a woman who is desperate to be able to make her own choices, and what drastic measures people will take when they are denied bodily autonomy. This is one of the most fundamental issues of feminism, women’s health, and equal rights. It is told here in the form of a captivating and suspenseful drama based on the book by beloved French novelist Annie Ernaux, and brought to the big screen by director Audrey Diwan. The film won both the Golden Lion and the FIPRESCI Award at Venice Film Festival in 2021.

Please note that the film has French dialogue and Norwegian subtitles.
